Ministry To Young People

The Youth Ministry in the Catholic Diocese of Ngong dates back to late 1980's. The statistics show that the total population of the youth aged between 14 and 35 years is 712,079.These figures include all young people, irrespective of their religious affiliation.

The Objectives of the Youth Ministry are:

• Co-ordinate programmes for young people across the Diocese through various movements.
• Promoting healthy and holistic formation of the young people,
• Developing parish youth programmes that are able to read the signs of the time and that address the challenges of their daily life to live fulfilled lives in Christ. It is imperative that the church proclaim the Gospel to the Young in ways they can understand, ways that can enable them to grasp the hand of Christ who never ceases, who never ceases to reach out them especially in their dark times (Pope John Paul II).

Main activities carried out by the office:

• Training peer counselors/ educators
• Sensitize the community (young people) on behavior change.
• Create opportunities to realize and develop the talents of young people.
• To create moments of peer interaction and sharing of at least once a month.
• Equip the youth in the Diocese with basic life skills.
• Outreach ministry in all six civic Districts, targeting more than 55,000 young people living within the Diocese through seminars /workshops, counseling sections, awareness, and training peer counselors.

The ministry is headed by youth Chaplain (priest) and coordinator who work hand in hand. The Ministry has been uniting all young people irrespective of their culture and religious affiliation.
