Education Programme
Goal
To provide quality formal and non formal education based on Christian values and on formation of the whole person to all communities within Diocese of Ngong in order to live fulfilled lives.
Diocese of Ngong like any other Catholic Diocese in Kenya has been involved in Education since pre-independence times. After independence, the Church came into partnership with the Government. Since then, Diocese of Ngong has been collaborating with the government not only in implementing education policies, but also in searching for new approaches in education in Kenya.
Missionaries constructed first schools in Maasai land in early 60s and they started creating awareness of importance of education. The Diocese also focused on girl child education, which was a new phenomenal in the community and three girls boarding school were constructed i.e. Rombo girls in Loitokitok, St. Mary's in Narok and St. Joseph in Kilgoris. At the moment, the Diocese is sponsoring 190 primary school and 20 secondary schools while managing 19 primary schools and 7 Secondary schools.
Main objectives
- Promote the various forms of catholic educational to enable people to grow in their faith and attain their fulfilled lives in Christ.
- Facilitating proper management of school through in-servicing management committees and Boards
- Ensuring that schools are important agents of character formation
- Promoting academic performance though motivating in-servicing teachers
- Facilitate maintenance of discipline in learning institution, through behaviour change programmes and guidance and counseling
- Working hand in hand with the Government and other education providers within the area
