The church first established a house at Rombo mission in 1962 but Loitokitok, which was founded in 1970 is headquarter of development activities in the area.  The constituent parishes also includes: Sultan Hamud, Lenkisem and Mashuru.  According to the 199 population and housing census, the area has an estimated population of 131,296 persons, predominantly Maasai.  This area is the home of Amboselli Game Reserve at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro, and home to some of the largest elephant herds in the world!

Challenges include frequent droughts, human-wildlife conflicts, food insecurity, water scarcity, and environmental degradation.

The famous Development Education Programme (DEP) in Kenya was started here by the Diocese in late 1970s.  A lot has been accomplished since then in terms of health and nutrition, education, environmental conservation, livestock production, food security and water & sanitation amongst others.

The needs assessment of 2008 in the development cluster reveals priority interventions themes in the areas of Disaster Risk Reduction, Environmental conservation an lobbying and advocacy.  Under disaster risk reduction are issues of droughts, alternative livelihoods options, livestock improvement, crop husbandry, access to water and credit facilities.  Environmental conservation issues include tree planting, soil degradation and alternative land use.  The issues surrounding lobbying and advocacy includes human and child rights, devolved government funds utilisation monitoring, human-wildlife conflicts, democracy and governance.
